I think that if we look at this movie in it's historic context, I would say that, while many parts are glossed over, they are for the most part correct. This is about the relationship, ethics, princilples and values of two very different people, Mary Surrat and her attorney. The story is throughly engaging, and anyone with any knowledge of history, especially that of the period during the Civil War, can draw any comparison they want to current events. I do not need anyone to tell me what to think about that for I choose to draw my own conclusions. The acting and technical aspects were all very good and thecinematography was so effective that at times I felt I was watching a film in black and white. What we need to know is that we must know our history and understand the errors made in order not to repeat them. Any thinking adult should value seeing this film.

If you don't have patience and simply write off this movie, you are missing a masterpiece. Robert Redford's slow, deliberate style is what makes this movie great. Not to mention the excellent cinematography in it. James McAvory is perfect in his role as is Kevin Klein and Robin Wright. Don't come in to this movie looking for a shooter and fast-paced action drama that costs a crap load of money to produce and has gunfire every five seconds, so it can keep the attention of the majority of people. If you go in with that attitude you will come out and whine about it because that isn't what this movie is about. This isn't JFK. It isn't about the conspiracy theories. It is about the defense of Mrs. Surratt and the war tribunals. If you come into this masterpiece ready to think and learn, however, you will be amazed. Truly, a movie for intelligent people. If you liked the movie Frost/Nixon, then I'm willing to assure you that you will love this masterful historical recreation by Mr. Redford.

I go to a movie predisposed to like it, not to find fault. I particularly enjoy historical dramas, so I liked this film very much. I thought the craftsmanship in photography, sets, costuming, casting and acting were well above average. The film deals with a serious subject and it seemed to me that everyone took their role very seriously. The story line was compelling and I was particularly taken by the sympathetic tone afforded Mary Surratt. I was vaguely aware of the historical background, but am by no means a Civil War history buff, so there were many new details the movie provided. The end credits included a statement that the film company tried to depict matters in a historically accurate way. Though many scenes and dialogue obviously were dramatic interpretations, it was refreshing to see a movie that felt it didn't have to sacrifice accuracy to boost box office returns. Any age person who likes history will probably like The Conspirator. Worth the price of ticket

Woven Together with the history we know is the history not generally known. If you think you know your history, this may be a good place to learn what you may not know. Who was Mary Surrat and what was her involvement in the plot to assassinate a sitting President, Vice-President and Secretary of State? Who rose to her defense? Why? Was it legal to have a military court try a civilian? What is justice and how has our concept of justice developed? What does it take to be a hero, to live by your convictions, to make a difference? This is really a great movie that will stand the *** of time. Take a step back in time and revisit issue which confront us today. Great Fil. You feel as if you are part of history. Definitely a MUST GO.

I was pleased at just how well done this movie was. Certainly a different view of history per say. Director did well via bringing out the best in the actors. Well done by defense attorney and defendant! Made me angry with government/military. Movie well done and actors did their jobs well when bring out emotions in the viewers. Not one that children would relate to or understand the meaning behind. Adults whom know history and understand the message this film delivers, will find it captivating!
